Sioux Lookout Local Education Group (SLLEG)

Who are we?

 Local Education Groups (LEGs) are self-organized groups of NOSM U clinical faculty who deliver medical education, support professional development, and foster research and innovation. Funded through Alternative Funding Plans (AFPs) by the Ministry of Health, LEGs ensure sufficient clinical teaching opportunities. NOSM U’s distributed model, spanning over 70 communities in northern Ontario, relies on LEGs for tailored support, administered by NOAMA under an agreement with the MOH, OMA, and  Physician Clinical Teachers' Association (PCTA). 

Benefits of Membership

  

SLLEG members are eligible for many CME funding awards:


  1. Family Medicine Enhanced Skills Award -   Up to $5,000 per year for 5 eligible physicians are offered to support Added Competence (CAC) certification in areas like Emergency Medicine, Addiction Medicine, and Palliative Care, Anesthesia, Sports Medicine and Obstetrics 
  2. NOSM Faculty Development and Leadership Training Award -   Up to $2,500 annually for completing NOSM faculty development and leadership training for 2 current LEG members
  3. Physician Conference Presentation Award -  Up to $5,000 annually to one current LEG member for attending and presenting at a recognized physician conference 
  4. Member CME Accreditation Reimbursement -   Reimbursement for certification/accreditations/subscription: 

  • ATLS: up to $1,000  
  • ACLS/BLS/PALS: up to $500 
  • NRP: up to $500 •Alarm Course: up to $1,000  
  • Casted Course: up to $1,000  
  • Annual UpToDate subscription: up to $500


The SLLEG also sponsors annual educational conferences:


  1. Academic Days - Usually held for 2 days every October
  2. Sioux Lookout Addiction Medicine (SLAM) - One day addiction conference usually held in April


Applying for SLLEG Membership

  

To join the SLLEG, you must obtain NOSM faculty status. Please follow the following process:


• Submit Application to NOSM: Complete the NOSM Faculty Application, Letter of Intent, CV, Direct Deposit, and Declaration & Consent (D&C) form


• References: Provide 3 references, including at least 1 NOSM Faculty Member


• Notify SLLEG: Email us once you’ve submitted your application. Forward the Letter of Offer from NOSM to us at lmcnaughton@slmhc.on.ca
